The Researcher's Guide to Screen Heritage
The Researcher’s Guide to Screen Heritage is based on the data from two sources.
The first comprises the established
BUFVC reference work,
The Researcher's Guide: Film, Television, Radio and
Related Documentation Collections in the UK
. It has entries on over 640 film, television, radio and
related documentation collections in
the United Kingdom and Ireland. It features national and regional
archives as well as stockshot libraries
and collections held by local authorities,
museums, institutions of further and higher education, industrial
companies and private
individuals.
The second describes the extensive
collection of screen heritage artefacts that are held in UK collections.
These physical artefacts combine to represent all the key practices
within screen history including the magic lantern, film, television
and the digital present. They include magic lanterns and slides,
optical toys, film production equipment, television & video equipment, cinema equipment & fittings, artwork for animation, sets & costumes, sound technology, toys & games and documentation (such as photographs, scripts, sheet music and personal
papers).
Each record has live e-mail and weblinks
(where these are available), and the data is regularly updated by
the BUFVC's Information Service. Please pass any comments to rgo@bufvc.ac.uk
Guide to Screen Artefacts
We have organised the vast range of Screen Heritage artefacts into ten broad
categories. Each of these categories is broken down into a list of
artefacts.

How To Search
The General Search box is a free text search that scans the entire site.
You can then define the search
by institution or collection
title, moving image, sound,
documentation and artefact.
All these can be used in
combination.
Artefacts also has an advanced search. Here you can use a free text search
and Institution/Collection
title search across records that contain artefacts. You can also
search by Category by clicking the relevant box(es).
The Guide to Screen Artefacts
gives more information about these categories and the artefacts
within them.
